The Closer is the Exclamation point to any Drum Corps Show.
Every show needs a final movement that can bring a grand sense of finality, and the shows listed on today’s article do just that.
1. Phantom Regiment 2003: Harmonic Journey
This closer in particular has such a unique and captivating energy to it. I love watching the drill unfold with some of the tasty music selections possible for a drum corps show. This closer is etched deep in my mind and I think about it daily.
2. Carolina Crown 2019: Beneath the Surface
One of the most trilling crown closers that has a incredible intensity to it that’s very “not-crown” in my opinion. Typically crown’s closers feel triumphant and accomplished, but this closer felt like they were showing off. This crown knew they were good, and wanted to show the world just how good they were.
3. Mandarins 2023: Sinnerman
Mandarins LOVES their dark and twisted show concepts, and this show was no different. The trombone quartet highlighting the nightclub vibe while the hornline is blasting the audience off the space to seal the deal on their dance with sin. This show’s closer was a cherry on top to a thematic showing by the mandarins.
4. Bluecoats 2016: Downside Up
This is the closer that marked the official new era of Drum Corps. Turning it from just another marching activity to the art form and theatrical display it is today. Love it or hate it, this show – and it’s closer – showcased the capabilities of a marching ensemble that isn’t afraid to be different.
5. Blue Devils 2014: Filliniesque
The definition of finesse and elegance. The Blue Devils are known for how incredibly clean they can be, and this closer was a clinic on how to wrap up and show that will be remembered forever.
6. Cadets 2011: Between Angels and Demons
The Cadets can be described with many words, but for this closer I have just one: Legendary.
The final championship in the corps storied history of greatness comes from their most interesting concept yet. A battle of good and evil, which will prevail? The show can answer that for you, but how they show you is what makes this closer special.
7. Carolina Crown 2013: e=mc2
How do you possibly find a way to wrap up 12 minutes of greatness? You find a way to be absolutely perfect.
